Before work began…
It was obvious that the current deck on this house was not functional, lacking the space for a family to truly enjoy the outdoor living space. Being on a sloped section, it presented challenges that were overcome. The property had very little outdoor living space and our job was to create some space in the confined area that we had to work with.
Shade from the Sun
Creating a deck that the family could enjoy all year round was possible with the addition of a pergola with a transparent roof to not only let in the light, but protect the deck from the elements. The focus was shelter and bringing in the sunlight but shaded enough so that there was UV protection for the family under the roof.
Safety Guaranteed
Being on a sloped section, the deck was quite high in places and needed to be adequately fenced around the perimeter. We always worked to the fact that there were 3 small children living on the property and all of our materials used and construction including a swinging gate with a castor wheel on the base were child proof and built to last.
Attention to Detail
As with all deck builds, it was imperative to get all the angles correct as well as the final finish was visually appealing. We always focus on balancing design, functionality and what the project looks like at the end of the day. It is often a challenge to get all of these areas working cohesively together.
